Pav bhaji masala – Indian snack made of mashed vegetables

Pav Bhaji, a Maharashtrian fast food originated in the 1850s as a lunchtime dish for the mill workers. Today, numerous variations of this dish like Cheese Pav Bhaji, Paneer Pav Bhaji, Mushroom Pav Bhaji, etc exist and are loved by all. Given below is a mouth watering recipe of authentic Pav Bhaji which will definitely make everyone lick their fingers.


  • 1 ½ cup potatoes
  • 1 cup chopped cauliflower
  • ½ cup green peas
  • ½ cup chopped carrots
  • ½ cup chopped capsicum
  • 2 ½ cups chopped tomatoes
  • 1 ½ tsp Nilons Pav bhaji masala
  • ½ tsp Nilons turmeric powder
  • 1 ½ tsp Nilons chili powder
  • ½ tsp Nilons garam masala
  • chili garlic paste
  • 4 tbsp butter

Preparation Method

Step 1
Boil potato, cauliflower, carrot and peas till they are soft. Drain the excess water and mash the vegetables.
Step 2
Heat butter in a pan and add onion and capsicum to it. Saute for 2-3 minutes and add the chili garlic paste to it. Saute till onion softens.

Step 3
Add tomatoes to the pan and simmer till oil separates. Put Nilons turmeric powder, Nilons pav bhaji masala, Nilons garam masala, Nilons chili powder and salt in the pan and mix well.

Step 4
Add the boiled and mashed vegetables to the pan and continue mashing with a potato masher. Pour half a cup of water to cook. Cook for 10-15 minutes while stirring continuously to make sure bhaji does not stick to the pan.
Step 5
Serve hot bhaji in dishes, topped with butter, onion and coriander. On the side, serve buttered and golden browned pavs.
